Publication Ethics
Student Journal of Education and Learning (SJEL) is committed to upholding the highest standards of publication ethics and takes all possible measures to prevent publication malpractice. All parties involved in the publishing process—authors, editors, reviewers, and the publisher—are expected to adhere to the following ethical standards.
This statement is based on the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) Best Practice Guidelines.
1. Duties of Editors
Editors are responsible for maintaining the integrity of the academic record and ensuring a fair, unbiased, and timely review and publication process. Editors must:
-
Make publication decisions based solely on academic merit and the journal’s scope.
-
Maintain confidentiality of submitted manuscripts and review materials.
-
Avoid conflicts of interest related to accepted or rejected articles.
-
Ensure that all submissions are evaluated fairly without discrimination based on gender, ethnicity, religion, or political beliefs.
-
Take appropriate action when ethical concerns arise, including cases of plagiarism or data fabrication.
2. Duties of Authors
Authors are responsible for the originality and integrity of their work. Authors must:
-
Ensure the manuscript is original and properly cite or quote the work and ideas of others.
-
Avoid submitting the same manuscript to more than one journal concurrently (no redundant or duplicate submissions).
-
Disclose all sources of financial support, if any.
-
Declare any potential conflicts of interest.
-
Confirm that all listed co-authors have made significant contributions and have approved the final version for submission.
-
Notify the journal immediately if significant errors or inaccuracies are discovered in their published work, to allow for correction or retraction.
3. Duties of Reviewers
Reviewers play a critical role in the editorial process by helping editors make publication decisions and by offering feedback to improve submitted manuscripts. Reviewers must:
-
Conduct objective, constructive, and timely reviews.
-
Treat all manuscripts as confidential documents.
-
Not use unpublished material from submitted manuscripts for personal research or advantage.
-
Decline to review a manuscript if a conflict of interest exists due to relationships with any of the authors or affiliated institutions.
